Delores "Kitty" Ruth Hanson

Delores R. Hanson age 82 of Detroit Lakes, MN died Sunday June 30, 2013 at St. Mary's Essentia Health-Meadow Brook in Detroit Lakes. Delores Ruth Ketterling, the daughter of Edward and Emma Ketterling was born in Artis, SD on February 19, 1931. Delores was the oldest of four children and had three brothers, Clayton, Floyd and James. Delores grew up and attended elementary through high school in Napoleon, ND where she graduated in 1949. Following high school, Delores attended St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing in Fargo, ND. She received her degree as a Register Nurse (RN) in September, 1952. Delores worked at Jamestown Hospital in Jamestown, ND (1952) and Finley Hospital in Dubuque, Iowa (1953-1954). While working in Dubuque, she met Gunder Hanson from Thief River Falls, MN. They were married on August 22, 1954 in Napoleon, ND. Gunder was a High School Agriculture teacher in Hazen, ND where they lived and she worked at the Hazen Memorial Hospital from 1954-1955. In 1955 they moved to Perham, MN, where Gunder taught at the High School and Delores worked at the Perham Hospital. In 1966 they moved to Detroit Lakes, MN where she worked part-time at St. Mary's Hospital and later for 10 years in the office of Dr. Duane Wething, Chiropractor. She retired in 1990 from Dr. Wething's office. Delores and Gunder were members of Grace Lutheran Church since moving to Detroit Lakes in 1966. Delores was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Delores' primary focus was her family and caring for the family home. While Gunder enjoyed farming, hunting and fishing; Delores enjoyed the peace and quiet that occurred when Gunder took the boys to enjoy these activities. Surviving Delores are her two brothers; Clayton (Cynthia) Ketterling of Palm Bay, Florida, and James (Marlene) Ketterling of Mesa, AZ; five children: Linda Hanson Bell of Larimore, ND; Gregory Hanson of Plymouth, MN; Jeffrey (Margit) Hanson of St. Paul, MN; Timothy (Janet) Hanson of Moorhead, MN and Daniel (Kathi) Hanson of Savage, MN; eight grandchildren, Brady, Megan, Ryne (Megan), Taylor, Jackie, Jacob, Alexis and Dylan; Sister-in-law; Alvina Hanson of Thief River Falls, MN. Preceding Delores in death was her husband, Gunder; her parents, Edward and Emma; and her brother Floyd; and niece Pam Ketterling Cundiff.
