Grace Elaine Francis

Grace E. Francis age 75 of Detroit Lakes, MN died August 28, 2013 at the Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine, MN. Grace Elaine Francis was born May 5, 1938 in Trail, MN to Gilbert and Violet Evenson Thompson. She attended country school thru the eighth grade and later graduated from McIntosh High School. She married Jerome Haugen in 1956. They made their home in McIntosh, where Grace worked at the Bakery and Grocery Store. She then began her career as a Social Worker for Polk County Human Services in Crookston, MN. On September 18, 1980 she married William Francis in Crookston, MN. Over the years they lived in Crookston, MN, Grand Forks, ND, Eau Claire, WI, and Detroit Lakes, MN. While living in Eau Claire she worked as a fraud investigator for Eau Claire County Human Services. Grace and Bill enjoyed their lake home near Walker, MN. They also enjoyed traveling in their retirement and spent several winters in Arizona. She liked gardening, dancing, and reading. She will be fondly remembered as a very loving and giving person. She is survived by one daughter, Sherri Pape, of Thief River Falls, MN; four sons, Jerry Haugen, of Hillsboro, ND; Larry Haugen, of McIntosh, MN; Todd (Sue) Haugen, of Milwaukee, WI; and Tony (Leslie) Haugen, of McIntosh, MN; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; two sisters, Leona Humphrey, of Baxter, MN; and Vicki Dishman, of Ripon, WI; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; 1st husband, Jerome Haugen (1987); 2nd husband, Bill Francis (2012); one sister, Ruby Ostenna; two brothers, Sid and Cliff Thompson; and one brother in law, Paul Dishman.
