Emmett Miller

Emmett Miller 95, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, died Sunday, September 8, 2013 at Ecumen-Emmanuel Nursing Home, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. Emmett was born on November 14, 1917, the son of Herman and Nora (Flom) Miller in Flom, Minnesota. He was raised in Flom and graduated from Waubun High School in 1934. Emmett was united in marriage to Adeline Solberg on February 7, 1942. Shortly after their marriage, he was drafted and served in the United States Army during WWII. After Emmett received an honorable discharge in 1944, they made their home in Detroit Lakes, where he worked for Albert Hill Construction. He worked for Swedberg Construction for a few years, before starting Emmett Miller Construction. Emmett continued to work until retiring at the of 88. Emmett was a former commander of Jesse Omundson VFW Post #1676 and the Seam Squirrel for the Cooties. He was an excellent cook, enjoyed gardening, reading, playing Whist and Pinochle. Emmett truly enjoyed the time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Emmett is survived by his three sons, Russell (Rita) Miller of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota; Roger (Cheryl) Miller of Shoreview, Minnesota; Harlan Miller of Shoreline, Washington; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Virgil (Betty) Miller of Billings, Montana; sister-in-law, Ramona Bettendorf of Moorhead, Minnesota; numerous nieces and nephews. Emmett was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Adeline (2009), two brothers, Charles and Noel Miller, Elpha Gunderson, Erna Zimmerman and Eileen Thorpe.
