Marlis Ione (Malde) DelMain, 86, of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, died Friday, October 11, 2013 at Essentia Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota. Marlis was born on May 20, 1927 in Cooperstown, North Dakota to Olaf & Stella (Soli) Malde. Marlis attended school in Park River, North Dakota and college at Concordia and Moorhead State in Moorhead, Minnesota. She earned a degree in Education and began her twenty-three year teaching career in Marshall, Minnesota. While teaching in Alexandria, Minnesota, she met LeRoy "Fox" DelMain. They married on June 4, 1955 and lived in Alexandria and Winona, Minnesota before moving to Detroit Lakes in 1957. Marlis's focus in life was her faith, family and friends. For over fifty years Marlis was an active member of First Lutheran Church. She was an amazing blessing to her three daughters, eleven grandchildren and two great-granddaughters, exemplifying patience, peace, kindness, encouragement and joy. She will be greatly missed! Teaching kindergartners was a delight for Marlis. Other interests she enjoyed were reading, hiking, gardening and thrice-weekly water aerobics. She rarely missed a sunset from the dock of her Long Lake Home. She spent long hours assembling photo albums and writing letters to family and friends (usually in calligraphy). Fox and Marlis traveled extensively to many trout streams, golf courses, mountain campgrounds and the Texas coastline. Marlis also visited her dad's family in Norway several times. Marlis is survived by her three daughters, Lea (Dean) Langley, of Albany, MN; Ann (Mark) Johnson, of Elko, MN; and Kim (Larry) Roth, of Montgomery, MN; eleven grandchildren; soon-to-be three great-grandchildren; sister, Ina Claire Squires. Marlis was preceded in death by her parents, LeRoy DelMain, her husband of 56 years and sister, Lona Trygg.
