Bernice Vanderpoel, 94, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, died Friday, October 11, 2013 at Frazee Care Center, Frazee, Minnesota. Bernice was born on April 6, 1919, the daughter of Henry and Clara (Versteeg) Bouma in Chandler, Minnesota. She was raised and attended rural school in Hancock, Minnesota. On June 17, 1937, Bernice married Glenn Vanderpoel in Glenwood, Minnesota. They farmed in the Detroit Lakes area until retiring in 1971. Bernice enjoyed gardening and flowers. She especially enjoyed time spent with her family. Bernice is survived by her daughter, Darlene (Maynard) Hanson of Detroit Lakes, MN; granddaughter, Twyla (Glen) Bucholz of Detroit Lakes, MN; two great-grandchildren, Tonya Strom and Tyler Sather; two great great grandchildren, Peter and Jackson Strom; one sister, Dorothy Burns of Hancock, MN; numerous nieces and nephews. Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Glenn, siblings, Francis Ras and Raymond Bouma.
