LaVerne P. Hedstrom age 84 of Detroit Lakes, MN died November 7, 2013 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes, MN. LaVerne Phyllis Hedstrom was born June 18, 1929 in rural Lake Park, MN to Oscar and Alice Hanson Samuelson. She grew up and attended country school near her home. She completed her education in Lake Park, graduating from Lake Park High School in 1947. Following High School she moved to San Francisco, CA, where she lived for one year, working as a waitress. She moved back to Lake Park and worked at the Lake Park Cafe. It was there that she met the love of her life and future husband Bud Hedstrom. They were united in marriage on October 9, 1949 at the Lake Park Lutheran Church. They made their home and raised their family in Detroit Lakes. LaVerne also worked alongside her husband in the family business, "Bud's Vending and Jobbing." In the earlier years she was active at Houglum Lutheran Church and later First Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes. She was also active in 4-H Clubs and Becker County Extension Clubs. She was a wonderful cook, and enjoyed arts and crafts, scrapbooking, poetry and journaling. She loved time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. LaVerne is survived by one son, Steve (Beth) Hedstrom, of Detroit Lakes, MN; one daughter, Monica (Hal) Edwards, of Farmington, MN; four grandchildren, Kathryn Edwards, of Farmington, MN; Kelly (Sheldon) Ehli, of Fargo, ND; Krysten (Derek Hughes) Edwards, of Burnsville, MN; and Ryan (Stephanie) Hedstrom, of Clovis, New Mexico; four great grandchildren, Alexander, William, and Olivia Ehli; and Jonah Hughes; one sister EuDell Larson, of Hawley, MN; one brother, Darwin Samuelson, of Big Bend, WI; two sisters in law, Marilyn Hedstrom and Evelyn Hedstrom; and numerous nieces and nephews. LaVerne was preceded in death by her husband, Arvid "Bud" Hedstrom (1990); one son Daniel (1984); and her parents.
