Herbert Milton Tingelstad, 83, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 10, 2013 at Ecumen-Emmanuel Nursing Home, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. Herb was born on May 28, 1930 to Anton and Minda (Johnson) Tingelstad in Dunn Township of Ottertail County, Minnesota. Herb was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church, Franklin Lake. He was raised and educated in Pelican Rapids, Minnesota. As a young man, Herb enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1951 and received an honorable discharge in 1955. He was once married to Phyllis Dalve and Carol Kohler. Herb returned to Detroit Lakes, where he worked for Art Kohler Trucking. He was united in marriage to Lila Travis on October 18, 1980 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Detroit Lakes. Shortly after their marriage, Herb became the grounds keeper for Detroit Lakes High School until his retirement in 1992. After his retirement Herb started Tingy's Lawn Service, which he truly enjoyed. Herb enjoyed fishing, putting music on cassette tapes and playing pool. He especially enjoyed the time spent with his family and friends. Herb is survived by his wife of 33 years, Lila Tingelstad of Detroit Lakes, MN; and was blessed with three loving families, Curtis and Randy Tingelstad both of Sacramento, CA; Shelia (Kevin)Kohler of Breckenridge, MN; Rhonda (Randy) Wilson of Detroit Lake, MN; Brent Tingelstad of Detroit Lakes, MN; Perry (Lorraine) Travis of Audubon, MN; Cindy (Rob) Sims of Detroit Lakes, MN; Rob (Kim) Travis of Ham Lake, MN; sixteen grandchildren, Robin, Ryan, Justin and Julia Kohler; Tana, Cory and Kyle Vareberg; Ashley, Alexa and Zachary Tingelstad; Perry Travis Jr., Michael Travis, Travis and Tony Sims, Gabrielle and Jason Travis; one brother, Loyal "Tingy" (Shirley) Tingelstad of Detroit Lakes, MN; two sisters, Dora (Myron) Weber of Spring Lake Park, MN; Eleanor Tingelstad of Fergus Falls, MN; sister-in-law, Louella Tingelstad of Poulsbo, WA; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Herb was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Greg and Rodney Tingelstad, three brothers, Milan, Leroy and Alvin Tingelstad.
