Alice Eileen Byers

Alice E. Byers, 65, of Perham, MN, formerly of Detroit Lakes, MN died Friday, December 20, 2013 at Ecumen-Emmanuel Nursing Home, Detroit Lakes, MN. Alice was born on February 19, 1948, the daughter of Joseph and Annabelle (Erickson) Carlson in Detroit Lakes. She was raised and educated in Detroit Lakes, graduating in 1966. Shortly, after high school she enlisted in the United States Air Force. On November 25, 1967, Alice was united in marriage to Juergen Byers in rural Detroit Lakes. During their military careers they made their home in many locations throughout the United States, until settling in Detroit Lakes in the mid 70's. She worked various jobs while raising her family. Alice enjoyed drawing, reading, flowers, gardening, dancing, horses and cats. She also authored two books in her lifetime. Alice is survived by her three daughters, Carie Erickson of Detroit Lakes, MN; Yvonne Byers of Detroit Lakes, MN; Cynthia (Craig) McMahon of Winona, MN; six grandchildren, Kendra Byers, Ashley Erickson, Justin and Brady Sampson, Jacob and Sydney McMahon; one great grandchild, Tayden Mulholland; seven siblings, Deanna (Duane) Walen of Callaway, MN; Joseph (Marilyn) Carlson of Whidbey Island, WA; Daniel (Monica) Carlson of Litchfield, MN; William Carlson of Palm Springs, CA; Denise (Lyle) Shepard of Detroit Lakes, MN; Elsie Carlson of Fergus Falls, MN and Laurie High of Detroit Lakes, MN; numerous nieces and nephews. Alice was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Juergen (2006).
