Leona Peterson age 90 of Audubon, MN died December 23, 2013 at the Sunnyside Care Center, Lake Park, MN. Leona Peterson was born March 4, 1923 in rural Detroit Lakes, MN to Fred and Irene Glawe Kiehl. She grew up and attended the Maple Grove Country School in rural Detroit Lakes. As a young girl she picked potatoes, worked in Restaurant, and helped her mother care for her siblings. She later moved to Lake George, MN where she worked at a saw mill, preparing meals and taking care of the logger's children. It was while working at the saw mill that she met her future husband Victor. On October 24, 1941 she was united in marriage to Victor E. Peterson. They made their in rural Audubon and later in Detroit Lakes, before moving to a farm south of Audubon. Leona has been a resident of the Sunnyside Care Center since March of 2013. Leona was a very caring person who was always concerned for others. Most of her siblings at one time or another lived with Leona and Victor. She also had a great love for animals, especially her horse "Patsy". She also enjoyed fishing and time spent taking care of her grandchildren. She is survived by one daughter, Phyllis (Eugene) Beyer, of Audubon, MN; one son, Phillip Peterson, of Detroit Lakes, MN; five grandchildren, Tammy (Barry O'Brien) Willette; Tara (Robert) Hernandez; Angie (John Puckrup) Walther; Todd (Joy) Peterson; and Chad (Christine) Peterson; nine great grandchildren; Zachery, Savanna, Levi, and Kinzie Peterson; Austin, Summer, and Gunner Peterson; and Rebecca and Joshua Hernandez; two brothers, Lester (Mary) Kiehl, of Audubon, MN; and Richard Kiehl, of Frazee, MN; two sisters, Helen (Leonard) Fagerlie, of Lake Stevens, WA; and Evelyn (Herman) Sigurdsson, of Seattle, WA; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Victor; an infant sister, Florence; two brothers, Charles and Harvey Kiehl; and her parents.
