Claris D. Greenland, 95, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, died Sunday, December 29, 2013 at St. Mary's - Essentia Health, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. Claris was born on November 1, 1918, the son of Albert and Henrietta (Maesberg) Greenland in Purdum, Nebraska. He enlisted in the Army Air Corp on June 23, 1941 during WWII. Claris received an honorable discharge on October 16, 1945 as a Master Sargent. He was united in marriage to Frieda Miller. They made their home in Purdum until 1959 when they moved to rural Callaway, Minnesota. Claris owned and operated a cattle farm for many years. After his wife of 51 years, Frieda passed away on February 10, 1994, he moved to his home on Buffalo Lake. Claris married Rosemary Watson in Detroit Lakes and they made their home on Buffalo Lake. Claris is survived by his wife, Rosemary Greenland of Detroit Lakes, MN; two sons, Richard (Barbara) Greenland of Dent, MN; Joe Greenland of Minooka, IL; two daughters, Beverly (John) Knaus of Tyler, TX; Brenda (Jeffery) Bess of Haymarket, VA; six grandchildren, Nathan, Peter, Alex, Megan, Kaitlyn and Matthew; two great-grandchildren, Melanie and Liam; one sister, Klyda Steele of Lincoln, NE. Claris was preceded in death by his parents and first wife, Frieda.
