Shane M. Nelson, 58, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, died Saturday, January 18, 2014 at Ecumen-Emmanuel Nursing home, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. Shane was born on April 4, 1955, the son of Robert and Larraine (Erickson) Nelson in Detroit Lakes. He attended school in Detroit Lakes, graduating from Detroit Lakes High School in 1976. Shane was active with the Becker County Development Achievement Center (DAC) for most of his life. He enjoyed life and loved to share it with those around him. Shane was a passionate supporter of Detroit Lakes High School sporting activities. He was also an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where Shane served as an usher. Shane enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially flirting with the ladies. Shane was an avid bowler, member of the Great Northern Gang, enjoyed watching TV, tubing, snowmobiling, attending concerts and playing cards. He also enjoyed rooting for his favorite teams which included the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks, the Minnesota Vikings and Twins. Shane is survived by his sister, Julie (Jon) DeKrey of Tappen, ND; niece and nephew, Amanda and Tim DeKrey both of Fargo, ND; two aunts, Ethel (Ronald) Duenow of Detroit Lakes, MN; Iola Nelson of Battle Lake, MN; two uncles, Neil Nelson of Hankinson, ND; Carl Gilbertson of Battle Lake, MN; numerous cousins. Shane was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Chan Nelson. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church (Youth Programs), American Cancer Society or Donor's Choice.
