Doris Struthers Lundberg, 95, of Detroit Lakes, loving wife, mother and grandmother, fell asleep in the Lord Thursday, February 27, 2014 at Ecumen-Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes. Doris Mae Struthers was born September 30, 1918, to Robert Alton Struthers and Adora Beatrice Coyle in Amiret, Minnesota. She graduated from Marshall High School in 1935, Mankato Teachers College in 1938, and Macalester College in 1944. Doris began her teaching career in a one-room school house near Amiret in 1939 and retired from Detroit Lakes Junior High in 1980, where she had taught Spanish and General Business for eleven years. Doris and Edwin Lundberg married in 1948 and raised their family on Highway 34 and Juggler Lake. Doris loved her family, teaching and the outdoors. She worked and played hard, spent many hours volunteering, and part of almost every summer day in the garden. Their retirement years were a wonderful adventure, spent between the summer lake and winter desert, RVing throughout the United States, with excursions into Mexico and Scandinavia. Doris was a great listener, always affirming, and gave advice sparingly. She will be deeply missed by her husband Edwin, children Jeanne (Pendelis), Margaret (Gregg), Robert, and Paul (Krysia), and grandchildren, George, Lindsay, Alaina, Sara and Christos. The family is grateful to the staff at Ecumen-Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes for their kind attention to Doris' care.
