Barbara (George) Hanson, 74, of Rochert, Minnesota, formerly of Minneapolis, MN died surrounded by her family on March 20, 2014 at Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. Barbara was born July 28, 1939 to Simon and Ida George of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Barbara moved to the Detroit Lakes area with her parents as a young adult and assisted family members in opening and running The Little Lebanon in Height of Land, now Charlie's Bar. Although she had the debilitating disease called osteogenesis imperfecta (known as brittle bone disease), and a battle with cancer Barbara refused to let these diseases limit her ability to enjoy life. Barbara married and gave birth to two sons, Gerald and Joseph, whom she raised successfully on her own to be responsible, loving husbands and fathers. Barbara took pride in civil service and enjoyed spending her time volunteering for many organizations, fighting for the rights of the disabled, and helping others. She was a member at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frazee, MN. When her grandchildren came along, Barbara enjoyed being a daily part of their lives, helping to care for them and instilling her family values and responsibility to others. Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, Simon and Ida George, a sister, Annette George, and a brother, Charles George. Barbara is survived by her sons, Gerald (Donna) Hanson, Joseph (Dawn) Hanson, and brother, John (Joanne) George, sisters, Rose Jenson, Charlene (Armel) Abundnis and Darlene (Ed) Rice, sister-in-law, Eloise (Charles) George, three granddaughters, Annette Hanson, Alexis Hanson and Keela Hanson, eight nieces, eight nephews, twelve great nieces, and eight great nephews. God has gained another ANGEL to his flock. An ANGEL that will make our Lord very proud to have on board to do more of her very important work (helping others) in HEAVEN. Rest in Peace Sister.
