Arnold O. Solum, 87, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, died Saturday, May 10, 2014 at Ecumen-Emmanuel Nursing Home, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. Arnold was born on June 19, 1926, to Knute and Esther (Leegard) Solum near Callaway, Minnesota. He lived on the family farm, until he enlisted into the United States Army. He was part of the 2nd Infantry Division. Upon receiving an honorable discharge, Arnold moved to West Fargo, North Dakota and worked for Armour Meat Company for a few years in the freezer department. He also helped area farmers during harvest. Arnold eventually returned to Detroit Lakes and worked for Nodsle Construction until his retirement in 1979 due to health problems. Arnold is survived by his sister, Blanche Englund of Detroit Lakes, MN; his nieces and nephews. Arnold was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, LaVern Solum, Alvina Lemon, Alette Arneson, brothers, Clifford and Lawrence Solum.
