Lorraine Ruby Halverson

January 15, 1921 — May 31, 2014

Lorraine (Lindstrom) Halverson, 93, Detroit Lakes, MN passed away on May 31, 2014 at Sunnyside Care Center in rural Lake Park, MN. Lorraine Ruby Peterson was born January 15, 1921 to Gertrude Peterson in Minneapolis, MN. She moved to Lake Park, MN when she was an infant. Lorraine graduated from Lake Park High School and Concordia College. She taught high school in Bellingham, MN and in Glyndon, MN. In 1947, she married Erling Lindstrom. Following their marriage they made their home in Dilworth, MN for a few years. They became charter members of Dilworth Lutheran Church. Later, they moved to a farm west of Lake Park and joined Eksjo Lutheran Church where she was the Sunday School Superintendent for a number of years. In 1960 they moved to Moorhead where they became members of Our Savior's Lutheran Church. While living in Moorhead she became a private teacher for the Moorhead School System. After her husband Erling became ill and could no longer work they moved to his parent's home south of Lake Park. They joined Strandvik Lutheran Church in rural Lake Park. Erling passed away in 1977. Following the death of her father-in-law and Erling, Lorraine and her mother-in-law moved to an apartment in Lake Park. She went to work as the parish secretary for the Gloria Dei Lutheran Parish in Lake Park, where she worked for 11 years. She married Alfred Halverson in 1990. They made their home in Detroit Lakes, MN and were members of Faith Lutheran Church, where she was active in various committees. Her main interest was in Missions. She and Alfred spent time spreading the Lord's Word thru their music at several nursing homes in the area. Alfred passed away in 2000. At an early age she wanted to be a missionary. So she made it her life's work to make sure everyone she came in contact with knew that she loved the Lord and they could be saved by turning their life over to the Lord. In 1988, she made a trip to Africa to the mission fields. But for Lorriane, the highlight of her life was when she was able to go to the Holy land and walk where Jesus had walked. Lorraine is survived by three children, Richard (Becky) Lindstrom of Audubon, MN; Roxanne (Ron) Samuelson of Lake Park, MN; and Rebecca (Tom) Sorvik of West Fargo, ND; one granddaughter, Christina (Eugene) Knutson of Lake Park, MN; three grandsons, Ryan (Allison) Lindstrom, Robert Lindstrom both of Fargo, ND and Paul Andrew Sorvik of West Fargo, ND; six great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.
