Evelyn Vada Halstad

Evelyn "Evy" V. Halstad, 97, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, died Monday, July 28, 2014 at Ecumen-Emmanuel Nursing Home, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley and the staff of Emmanuel Nursing Home. Evy was born on February 21, 1917, the daughter of John and Elaine (Peterson) Anderson in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She was raised and educated in Minneapolis. Evy was united in marriage to Fred Halstad on September 11, 1943 and moved to a farm in rural Detroit Lakes. She was a housewife until, Evy began working in the summers for a few families in Shoreham. Evy later worked for JCPenney. In 1994, Evy moved to Minneapolis where she lived until returning to Detroit Lakes in 2004 and moved to the Lamplighter. She became a resident of Ecumen - Emmanuel Nursing Home on February 23, 2013. Evy is survived by her three daughters, Karen (Gary) Kluenenberg of Detroit Lakes, MN; Lynda (Phil Burke) Miller of Las Vegas, NV; Janet (Jack) Cornwell of Hawley, MN; sister-in-law, Ruth Rodman of Minneapolis, MN; seven grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; ten great great grandchildren. Evy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Fred, great grandson, Malachi Davis, three brothers-in-law, Albert Holstad, Lester Backlund and Fred Rodman, two sisters-in-law, Edna Backlund and Verna Holstad.
