Chris Dennis Olson

Chris D. Olson age 52 of St. Paul, MN formerly of Detroit Lakes, MN died September 28, 2014 at his residence of natural causes. Chris Dennis Olson was born on June 25, 1962 in Detroit Lakes, MN to Henry and Margie Roberts Olson. He grew up near Callaway, MN and attended Elementary School there. He graduated from Detroit Lakes High School in 1980. He then attended Moorhead State University, where he received B.A. Degrees in Communications and Business. He later earned a Master's Degree from Emporia State University. Chris worked for the Lake Agassi Regional Library System for several years before moving to St. Paul in 1994. He worked as Executive Director of the College Libraries in Consortium prior to serving in his current job as Executive Director of the Metropolitan Library Service Agency. Chris served on the board of the MN Association of Library Friends for 15 years. He was a former President of the MN Library Association as well as a member of the Adjunct Faculty at the St. Catherine University School of Library and Information Science. He was the recipient of many awards in recognition of his work and charitable efforts with Minnesota libraries. He was an avid pottery collector and book enthusiast. He also enjoyed traveling and the theatre. He was a kind, thoughtful person who cherished the many close friends that he had. He is survived by one sister, Doreen Tollefson, of Detroit Lakes, MN; three brothers, Larry Olson, of St. Louis, MO; Russell (Bonnie) Olson, of Dilworth, MN; and Bruce (Michelle) Olson, of Detroit Lakes, MN; his partner, Ronald Erickson, of St. Paul, MN; six nieces; four great nieces; two great nephews; Aunt and Uncle, Jeanine and William Kivi; and numerous longtime friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law, Walter Tollefson.
