Delores Josephine Gilbertson

Our sweet Mom, Delores J. Gilbertson had her "parting day" and went home to be her Lord and Savior on October 22, 2014, she was 88. Delores was surrounded by her children, by those who cared for her, and by the wonderful staff that watched over her at the Heritage House Assisted Living of Sebeka. Delores was born on May 9, 1926 to Charles and Philomen Wagner in Detroit Lakes, MN. She was the youngest of three children. She was raised and attended school in the Pelican Lake area. As a child she loved her family, country school, riding bicycle, and her pets. She married Oscar Gilman Gilbertson on January 16, 1944. They made their home in Barnesville, MN, where they farmed until moving to Detroit Lakes, MN. They raised four children and opened their home to foster care. Over the years Delores worked for Norby's, and Blanding's as a custodian, Carlson's Bakery, managed Fashion City, and then worked for Picture Rock. She was involved with the VFW Auxiliary and the Holy Rosary Church Circle. She was on bowling and pool leagues with Oscar and had many fun memories. She loved to host card parties, go dancing, have family dinners, and grow a garden. Her pickled beets were amazing and her pumpkin pie was simply the best. Doing the laundry was relaxing for her. She took pride in every piece she washed and ironed, and hanging clothes on the line became an art form for her, as there was a certain way they were hung. She had a love for all animals, especially her cats. Her time was best spent by enjoying her loving family, whom she took such great care of. She will be greatly missed. She leaves behind three children, David (Janice) Gilbertson, of Detroit Lakes, MN; Mary Lou (Lowell) Seaberg, of Detroit Lakes, MN; and Carol Behrens, of Moorhead, MN; her companion, Clarence Quasnick, of Sebeka, MN; nine grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; seven great great grandchildren; and two nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty five years, Oscar; her parents; daughter, Roberta (Birdie); grandchildren, Tammy and Nicole; brother William; and sister Genevieve.
