Ernest John Aguilar, 89, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota died Monday, February 16, 2015 at Essentia Health, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. John was born on February 4, 1926, the son of Joseph and Rita (Clark) Aguilar in Torrance, California. He was raised and educated in Torrance. John enlisted in the United States Navy in 1943, serving during WWII and the Korean War. He received an honorable discharge in 1962. John was extremely proud of his military service and enjoyed to reminisce about his time in the service. He lived in Sisseton, South Dakota for a short time before moving to Detroit Lakes. He was united in marriage to Evonne Kohler, and they made their home in Detroit Lakes. John worked for the city of Detroit Lakes for many years. He started the Golden Gloves Boxing Club in Detroit Lakes and served as the head coach of the club for many years. John was an active member of the VFW Post #1676. He enjoyed playing cards and being around his family, especially his grandchildren. John is survived by his son, Joe (Brittany) Aguilar of Detroit Lakes, MN; step-son, Mike (Cheryl) Kohler of Fargo, ND; three grandchildren, Nick Aguilar, Amelia Seals and Brody Aguilar; two step-grandchildren, Ronnie (Tori) Kohler and Sarah Kohler. John was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Evonne, step-daughter, Pamela Kohler, two brothers, Dewey and Roy Aguilar.
