Lillian L. Bergquist age 85 of Detroit Lakes, MN passed away peacefully at home on March 1, 2015, under the loving care of her family and Hospice of the Red River Valley. Lillian Louise Bergquist was born on December 27, 1929 in Pelican Rapids, MN to Olavus and Inga (Stephenson) Engebretson. She grew up and received her education in Pelican Rapids. In her youth, Lillian worked at the drycleaners and volunteered at the hospital. She was united in marriage to Ralph Bergquist at Augustana Lutheran Church in rural Detroit Lakes and they have three sons. Besides raising her sons on the family farm, she also worked at West Central turkey plant in Pelican Rapids for many years. Lillian loved to bake and will be remembered for her apple pies, bread, and cookies. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and drives in the country. Lillian took great pride in caring for many of her elderly relatives over the years. Despite her physical limitations later in life, she remained quite independent and kept a good sense of humor. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes. She is survived by three sons, Al Bergquist, of Detroit Lakes, MN; Dennis (Jen) Bergquist, of Audubon, MN; and Joe (Kim) Bergquist, of Detroit Lakes, MN; four grandchildren, Justin Bergquist, of Fargo, ND; Ashley Bergquist, of Mpls, MN; Logan Bergquist, of Detroit Lakes, MN; and Tucker Bergquist, of Detroit Lakes, MN; one brother, Harold Engebretson, of Alexandria, MN; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother, Oscar Engebretson; two sisters, Minnie Peterson and Sally Peterson; her parents; and step-father, Henry Brusven.
