Robert "Bob" O. Scherzer, 75, Callaway, MN died Saturday, April 11, 2015 at Sanford Health, Fargo, North Dakota. Bob was born on August 26, 1939, the son of George and Ruby (Hammer) Scherzer Sr. in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. He was raised in Callaway and graduated from Detroit Lakes High School in 1957. Bob attended the University of Minnesota for a couple of years and later enlisted in the United States Army. After receiving an honorable discharge, he returned to his home in rural Callaway to take over the family farm. Bob was united in marriage to Jennifer Lindley on September 26, 1970 in Callaway, Minnesota. He continued to operate the farm, dealing with beef cattle and small grains until his retirement in 1996. Bob then worked for the US Fish and Wildlife Service for a few more years and later continued to volunteer on a regular basis. Bob was an active member of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church. He enjoyed wood carving, hunting and fishing. Bob especially enjoyed his drives through the countryside, watching the wildlife and observing the field's progress for the upcoming harvest. Bob is survived by his son, James Scherzer of Fargo, ND; daughter, Marcia (Brian) Zauner of Lakeville, MN; step-daughter, Suzanne (Jeff Pollin) Lindley of Emerald Isle, NC; four brothers, George (Carol) Scherzer Jr. of Detroit Lakes, MN; Charles (Barb) Scherzer of Detroit Lakes, MN; Howard (Merry Pat) Scherzer of Coon Rapids, MN; David (Pat) Scherzer of Moorhead, MN; two sisters, Marlene Oppegaard of Moorhead, MN; Donna (Larry) Donner of Detroit Lakes, MN; numerous nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Jennifer (2006), sisters, Mary Lou Donner, Margaret Scherzer and brother, Franklin Scherzer. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church (23115 Co Hwy 14 Callaway, MN 56521), or American Diabetes Association (1701 N. Beauregard St. Alexandria, VA 22311).
