Ethel H. Goedert age 96 of Detroit Lakes, MN died September 13, 2016 at Essentia Health – Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes, MN. Ethel Helen Goedert was born January 21, 1920 in Columbus, ND to Joseph and Alma (Haga) Hovland. She moved to Rothsay, MN as a baby. She grew up and received her education in the Rothsay, Pelican Rapids, MN and Fergus Falls, MN areas. In 1938 she married Harry Fick in Fergus Falls, MN. They farmed near Fergus Falls and later owned and operated the Lincoln Café in Fergus Falls. They later moved to Pelican Rapids where Ethel worked at the Uptown Café. In 1954 they moved to Detroit Lakes where Ethel worked at the Swift Turkey Plant. In 1966 she married Victor Goedert. They made their home and farmed near Verndale, MN for twenty five years. They moved back to Detroit Lakes in the early 1980’s. Ethel loved dancing, playing bingo, and going to the casino. She was a member of the VFW and American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and also served as president of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary in Verndale, MN. She is survived by two daughters, Betty Wilson, of Detroit Lakes, MN; and Ilene (Mike) Maloney, of Detroit Lakes, MN; one son, Steven Fick Sr., of Detroit Lakes, MN; ten grandchildren, Daniel Wilson, Randy Wilson, Tammy Yost, Michelle Oelfke, Elizabeth Maloney, Patrick Maloney, Brian Maloney, Steven Fick Jr., Rachel Fick, and Sarah Fick; thirteen great grandchildren; fifteen great great grandchildren; one brother, Ernest Hovland, of Pelican Rapids, MN; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her 1st husband, Harry Fick (1989); 2nd husband, Victor Goedert (1998); one son, Harvey James Fick; four sisters, Myrtle Drechsel, Eunice Kinnen, Alice Anderson, and Viola Christianson; and two brothers, LeRoy and Leonard Hovland.
