David R. Brainard age 81 of Detroit Lakes, MN died February 3, 2017 at Ecumen-Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes. David Russell Brainard was born November 2, 1935 in Detroit Lakes, MN to Arthur and Esther (Bergquist) Brainard. He grew up and received his education in Detroit Lakes, graduating from Detroit Lakes High School in 1954, class president. Over the years Dave was involved in construction and real estate. He owned and operated several businesses, including Northwest Insulators, and Farm Automation which allowed him to build total confinement buildings, residential homes, churches, barns, and grain bins. He also worked as a Real Estate broker for over thirty years. Dave formerly served as the Detroit Township assessor, building and zoning administrator for Becker County, and on the Detroit Township Board. He was currently a board member of Habitat for Humanity, and the Pelican River Watershed. He enjoyed visiting with people, and time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was known by many for his “Top of the morning” greetings. His is survived by his wife, Murlene “Suzie” Brainard; three daughters, Vicki Brainard, of Shoreview, MN; Claudia (Don) Wiebold, of Shoreview, MN; and Jacque Brainard, of Spokane, WA; seven grandchildren, Nathan Wiebold, Carmen Wiebold, Kyle Kohns, Alex Kohns, Kaly Kohns, Aric Kohns, and Kara Kohns. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral Services will be on Wednesday Feb. 8, 2017; 2:00 p.m. at the Community Alliance Church in Detroit Lakes, MN. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the West-Kjos Funeral Home and one hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Detroit Lakes, MN.
