Arlene Ruby Rishovd, gracefully walked through the gates of Heaven to meet our Lord and Savior on March 28, 2025.
Arlene was born on March 8, 1935, in Detroit Lakes, MN to Abner and Hazel Warren. She was the oldest of two siblings, Virginia and Joe. She grew up in a few different homes around Ogema, MN while attending Kaye’s Corner, a one room schoolhouse, and latter attending Waubun High School.
Arlene moved to Detroit Lakes, MN with her grandma Sophie after grade school, where she experienced work life, babysitting, and waitressing at the Graystone, Mickey’s Café and Bunnell’s.
Shortly after her move to Detroit Lakes, the love of her life, Harry Rishovd proposed. They married in 1953 and together had three children: Larry, Gary and Sandra. While married, they enjoyed the outdoors, often staying at a cabin on Big Elbow Lake. Arlene would fish with Harry which resulted in her biggest catch, an 8lb. walleye! Oftentimes she was a great scout and driver for Harry, while he hunted partridge and pheasant. Their home was always decorated with the most beautiful assortment of flowers from tulips, tiger lilies, marigolds and roses. Arlene enjoyed a long-time job at Montgomery Ward and later retired from Beug’s Ace Hardware.
Two years ago, Arlene moved into the Frazee Care Center. She welcomed old and new residents with warmth and open arms, spending time with people she felt needed company the most. She was an avid puzzler and proudly held the title of BINGO Queen.
Arlene had a strong background in faith and was a lifetime member of First Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes, MN. Arlene will be remembered for her faith, kindness, generosity, thoughtfulness, giver of cards/gifts, lover of birds, the Game Show Network, puzzles, and fresh baked bread after school.
She is survived by a son, Gary Rishovd (Carol Schimetz) and a daughter, Sandra (David) Scherer; eight grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Rishovd; a son, Larry Rishovd; one sister, Virginia Anderson; one brother, Marvin (Joe) Warren; and her parents.
