Barbara J. McLeod, age 86, of Detroit Lakes, MN, Passed away peacefully at Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes, MN, surrounded by her family. A celebration of Barbara’s life will be held 1:30 p.m., Tuesday February 27th, 2018, at Grace Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes. Visitation will be held 4-7 p.m., Monday, February 26th, 2018, at west-Kjos funeral home with a prayer service to take place at 6:30 p.m. Interment will be made at Zion Lutheran Cemetery on Franklin Lake Rd, Pelican Rapids, MN. Barbara Jean McLeod was born on December 22, 1931, In Milaca, MN, to Byrd and Edith (weaver) Sundvall. Barbara was raised in Milaca, and as a teenager moved with her family to Detroit Lake. She graduated from Detroit lakes high school with the class of 1949. In 1950, Barbara married Myron “Bud” McLeod in Detroit Lakes, MN. Together they enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and traveling. The two of them enjoyed doing everything together and were the best of friends. Their greatest accomplishment was their children and grandchildren. Barbara worked for the State Highway Patrol for over 27 years before retiring. She always said it was her favorite job! After retiring, she enjoyed winters in Florida, shopping , traveling, reading, playing board games, and attending her grandchildren’s sporting events. The grandkids were always the twinkle in her eye. Barbara is survived by her five daughters Lorri (Dennis) Schermerhorn, Krista Korth, Merry Lee (Keith) Linden, Colleen(Donovan) Larson, Lisa (Shane Gigstead) Foster; Sisters Shirley Pudwill, Charlotte Weldon, Kathryn(Jim) Runger, and Debra Hintz; Sister in-Law Phyllis McLeod; Numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, Nieces and Nephews and extended family. She is preceded in death by her husband , her parents, infant son Michael, and grandsons, Troy Linden and Scott Schermerhorn. The Family would like to say a special thank you to all the wonderful staff at Oak Crossing, the dialysis nurses and Dr Anita Jonason, for all the wonderful care and support throughout the years.
