Carol Marie (Olson) Blauert, age 86, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at Essentia Health-Oak Crossing.
Carol was born on December 11, 1938 to Arnold and Clara (Lind) Olson in Detroit Lakes, MN. She graduated from Detroit Lakes High School in 1956, then pursued her passion for nursing at Detroit Lakes Vocational College, earning her nursing degree in 1977.
In 1957, Carol married the love of her life, Raymond Blauert, at First Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes, MN. Together, they built a beautiful life, filled with love and family. Carol was a devoted mother and an adoring grandmother and great-grandmother, with whom she created countless joyful memories.
For many years, Carol dedicated herself to the nursing profession, working as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) primarily in the Detroit Lakes area. She spent the latter part of her career at Emmanuel Nursing Home, where she continued to touch the lives of many until her retirement in 1992. Her commitment to her patients was evident in her nurturing demeanor, reflecting her deep-rooted caring nature.
A member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 15 for 48 years, Carol was actively engaged in her community. She served as a past color guard member, a Bible school teacher, and a member of the Mary Margaret Guild. Her faith was central to her life, as she regularly attended Bible study and lived out her values through service to others. Carol also had varied interests, including crocheting, ceramics, bowling, drawing, fishing, and baking, notably making krumkake and lefse. She cherished spending time with her grandchildren, solving puzzles, and indulging in joyous family gatherings.
Carol is survived by her devoted husband, Ray; children, James (Carolyn) Blauert, Diane (Don) Hayes, and Cheryl Blauert; her grandchildren, Rebecca, Stacy, Shawn, Matthew, BJ, Kimberly, Bradley, Amanda; nineteen great-grandchildren; brother Arnie (Georgia) Olson; sister Darlene (Marty Wolbaum) Olson; sister in-law Shelia Blauert and many other family members and friends who will miss her immensely.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter Laurie Ann Kay; her in-laws; and many other family and friends who have gathered to welcome her into eternal peace.
Carol was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, leaving behind cherished memories and a legacy of care and compassion. Her warm spirit, loving heart, and steadfast dedication to her family and community will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Visitation will be held on March 10, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at West Kjos Funeral Home Cremation Services, located at 900 Summit Ave., Detroit Lakes, MN. The funeral service will take place on March 11, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Zion Lutheran Church, 1100 Lake Ave., Detroit Lakes, MN, with a time for reflection and remembrance until 12:00 PM.
