Dennis David Munson age 91 of Lake Park, MN died peacefully, surrounded by family on March 9, 2025, at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Fergus Falls, MN.
Dennis was born on April 11, 1933, to David and Hulda (Peterson) Munson in Detroit Lakes, MN. His mother passed when he was five, and his father remarried Tillie Dahlberg in 1941, who raised him with love and care. He grew up on a farm near Pearl Lake and attended District 99 school in Detroit Lakes. At a very early age he began helping his father with the farm work. He later worked various jobs, including delivering milk and fuel delivery for Mickelberg Oil Co. He went to work for the Minnesota Department of Transportation in road maintenance in 1961 until his retirement in 1996. In 1955 he married Shirley Glawe and together they had three daughters. He enlisted in the Air Force during the Korean War and served four years. In 1994 he married Bonnie Monson. They enjoyed their retirement traveling. They made two trips to Sweden and Norway and various states. They spent many winters in Yuma, AZ., where they established life-long friends, that became family.
Dennis was a member of the American Legion in Lake Park, MN and the VFW and Gloria De Cristo Lutheran Church in Yuma, AZ. He was an avid Hunter, Fisherman, and Gardener. He collected old cars, hit and miss engines and loved going to the Steam Threshers Reunions in Rollag. He also had a passion for old country music, it soothed his soul. He enjoyed a good joke and was a prankster at heart and he will be forever missed.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; two daughters, Jeanette (Larry) Selseth and Debbie (Gary) Bolgrean; one step-daughter, Janet (Ron) Hanson; six grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and step-mother; one daughter, Cheryl (Terry) Schnepp; two step-sons, Terry Monson, and Tom Monson; one step-daughter, Susan Smith; four sisters, Eleanor Ohman, Beatrice Howe, Mertice Torgerson, and Eunice Palm; brothers in law, Mervin Ohman, Harold Howe, Kenneth Torgerson and Frank Palm; and several nieces and nephews.
