Delories Lillian Berg, 99, Detroit Lakes, MN, died Friday, May 13 at Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes.
Delories was born October 27, 1922, near Hawley, MN to Carl and Alma (Handegaard) Sandeen. She attended grade school at District #41 near Dale and is a 1941 graduate of Lake Park High School. She attended Interstate Business College in Fargo for one year and began working for the bank in Hawley in 1942. During this time, the United States entered WW II so after work and on weekends, a group of girls called the “Hawley Farmerettes” went out to help the farmers shock grain as most of the young men had been called into the service. The Farmers so appreciated this help. They picked the girls up with their trucks so that all of the girls rode in the back. It was a sticky, hot job, but the girls were happy to be able to help.
On June 18, 1944, she married Lester Berg. They farmed near Eksjo church in Lake Park. Delories was employed by Dr. A.S. Midthune from 1959 to 1973. At this time, they sold their farm and moved by Floyd Lake, Detroit Lakes. She worked at Dakota Clinic, Detroit Lakes until her retirement.
Delories was devoted to her church as a Sunday School Teacher. She also enjoyed quilting, served in many church committees, helping with bake sales, funerals, and weddings. She was a member of the Emmanuel Nursing Home auxiliary, The Sons of Norway, and a volunteer at St. Mary’s in the gift shop and at the front desk.
Lester and Delories enjoyed two trips to Norway and Sweden. They have many relatives in Norway and were privileged to have stayed in both of their grand parents’ homes. Several relatives have also come to the United States to spend time with them. Delories treasured the time she spent with her daughters and their families at their homes. She was fortunate to be able to spend her winter months in Naples, FL.
