Donald R. Lynch, age 91 of Detroit Lakes, died on Monday, March 2, 2020 at Ecumen - The Cottage.
Don was the eighth of nine children born to his parents Elvira “Vera” (nee Swanson of Hamden Township) and Walter Pierce “W.P.” Lynch in Detroit Lakes Minnesota. The invoice for his delivery was $15.00. He attended Lincoln Elementary School with his close lifelong buddies John Brien “Sonny” Hanson and John “Stein” Steinkopf. It was there he met and later fell in love with his beloved Shirley Forseth Lynch.
As a lad he caddied at the Detroit Country Club, just down the road from the Shoreham Store/Post office where like Don’s oldest brother Harold, brother Homer’s sons Tom and Rick eventually came to be restaurateurs of the famous The Store and Hotel Shoreham. After driving a bulk oil truck, Don became a businessman, first as a real estate broker for Don Lynch Real Estate located conveniently near Bunnell’s on Washington Avenue and later as the county Abstractor following purchase of Consolidated Abstract Inc. He was smart enough to retire before the internet became established in the area. He was interested in politics and ran for local office as a pre- “Green” candidate in the 70’s. Don’s absentee ballot for Mike Bloomberg was voided because he went to be with the Lord the morning the ballot was delivered to the courthouse.
He shared his love for nature, dogs and cats, NASCAR, Aaron Rodgers, grand opera and classical music with Shirley and his children Laurie and Franz. He showed his love for Jesus in his compassion and generosity toward the weak and helpless. The final survivor of his nuclear family, Don is now at rest in the Lord, free of his deaf and feeble mortal body and awaiting his promised new immortal body and life everlasting with King Jesus.
Memorial Services were held on Friday, March 6, 2020 at West-Kjos Funeral Home.
Please consider memorials to the Detroit Lakes Food Shelf, Humane Society of the Lakes, or Gideon's International.
