Dorothy Jean Peterson

Dorothy Jean Peterson, age 78, died peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on September 30, 2024, after a short battle with aggressive ALS.

Dorothy was born on April 4th, 1946, in Moorhead, MN to Theodore and Mable Gilbertson. She grew up and attended school in Pelican Rapids and Detroit Lakes. She married Larry Peterson, the love of her life, on April 18, 1964, in Pelican Rapids where they resided a short time before moving to Detroit Lakes where she resided the rest of her life. Dorothy had various jobs over her life, but her passion was caring for her family. The love she had for her children, grandchildren and her flowers were fierce. She kept an immaculate home and yard and like sneaking off to the casino for fun.

Dorothy is survived by her husband; Larry, her four children; Vicky Carrier of Detroit Lakes, Al (Tam) Peterson of Detroit Lakes, Deb (Joe) Leach of Detroit Lakes and Jeremy (Becky) Peterson of Rochert. One sister, Gladys Hammill of Graston, eight grandchildren: Amber, Lacey, Sasha, Trent, Michael, Matthew, Austin, and Avery; and seven great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death are her parents, and ten siblings: Oscar, Gordon, Charles, Lawrence, Jerome, Ruth, Alice, Thora, Myrtle and Evelyn.

Memorial services will be held at West-Kjos Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes, MN on Tuesday, October 8th, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Detroit Lakes following the service.
