Dorothy Joan Thunstrom was born January 12, 1946 in Perham, Minnesota, the daughter of Harry and Hester (Aldrich) Smith. She passed away March 14, 2019 at Ecumen - Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes. She grew up in Dent, Minnesota and attended school in Perham, Minnesota. On June 6, 1964 Dorothy was united in marriage to Duane Thunstrom in Dent and to this union three children were born. Dorothy was a stay at home mother and cared for the home and raised the children. They lived on the Iron Range and returned to Detroit Lakes in 1975. They moved to their current home on the farm in 1983. Dorothy worked at Dynamic Homes before retiring to spend more time with Duane and family. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, flowers and bonfires. Dorothy was a master crafter and was known to pick thistles by hand, so her children could run in the yard barefoot. She raised horses and dogs and was in the country band “Thunder”. Dorothy also liked to fish and go on fishing trips with Duane to Canada. Dorothy is survived by her husband: Duane Thunstrom of Rochert; children: Tina (Richard) Jurina of Fargo; Lisa (Todd) Linden of Rochert; Todd Thunstrom (Heather) of Detroit Lakes; granddaughters: Amanda (Jason) Mitchell, Lindsey (Jeff) Templin, Alissa (Matt) Selck, Ashley Jurina, Tessa (Matt) Sherbrooke, Shelby Lyman-Granvold, Teagan Thunstrom, Vega Thunstrom; grandsons: Jessi (Amanda) Holt, Alex Jurina, Wilder Thunstrom; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents: Harry and Hester, siblings: Milo Meyer, Patricia Auroa – North, Theodore Smith. The Thunstrom family would also like to thank medi-van drivers, ambulance drivers, ER and Hospital Staff, and the staff of Ecumen -Emmanuel Nursing home for all the care they gave Dorothy.
