Edwina Gebeke

Edwina M. Gebeke age 92 of Detroit Lakes, MN died March 25, 2019 at her home. Edwina May Mahlum was born June 24, 1926 near Fertile, MN to Edwin and Emma (Frisvold) Mahlum. She moved with her family to Detroit Lakes in 1943 and graduated from high school. She was educated to be a teacher and taught in a country school for 3 years. She married Harold Gebeke on July 22, 1948 in Detroit Lakes. They made their home in Moorhead until moving back to Detroit Lakes in 2005. Edwina was a devoted wife, mother and friend. She was active in her Ladies Circle at Trinity Lutheran Church in Moorhead as well as her Homemakers group. She enjoyed flower gardening, crocheting, reading and spending time with family and friends. Her eyes always lit up when she was talking about her grandsons. Summer weekends were spent at the cabin on Monson Lake and many vacations were taken to visit family and friends throughout the country. After Harold’s retirement they spent many winters in Truth or Consequences, NM and served a mean Sloppy Joe Sandwich in Happy Harold’s Chuckwagon at area auction sales. She is survived by her husband, Harold; two children, Randy (Trudy Cruz) of Moorhead, MN, Renae (Brian) Sander of Rochester, MN; two grandsons, Zachary Sander of Boulder, CO and Wyatt Sander of Rochester, MN; two brothers, Wallace (Colleen) Mahlum of Glyndon, MN and Virgil Mahlum of Detroit Lakes, MN and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Donna Larsen and Gloria Hagen. Memorial Services will be on Saturday March 30, 2019; 10:00 a.m. at the West-Kjos Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Detroit Lakes, MN.
