Ella Rose Hagen

Ella Rose (Gerner) Hagen age 93, of Detroit Lakes, MN died November 12, 2019 at her residence. Ella, the daughter of Fred and Sylvia Gerner was born March 30, 1926 in rural Hitterdal, MN. After graduating from Hitterdal High School, she graduated from Moorhead State Teachers College and began teaching elementary school in Twin Valley, MN. She later taught in Fergus Falls and Detroit Lakes. In 1957 she married Russell Hagen in Hitterdal and they settled in Detroit Lakes where she continued as a substitute teacher and later as a teacher’s aide at Rossman School. She was an active member of First Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School for eighteen years. She was also active with the Altar Guild and Esther Circle for many years. She was also active in Retired Educators and her Rossman Avenue Coffee Bunch. She is survived by two sons, Alan Hagen, of Detroit Lakes, MN; and Mark (Terry) Hagen, of West Fargo, ND; two granddaughters; two nephews; one niece; and a sister in law, Opal Wieck, of Escondido, CA. She was preceded in death by her husband Russell Hagen and her parents Fred and Sylvia Gerner. Funeral Services will be on Wednesday November 20, 2019; 1:00 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes, MN. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the West-Kjos Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes, with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Interment will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Detroit Lakes, MN.
