Genevieve Ann Clukey

December 7, 1935 — September 10, 2024

Detroit Lakes

Genevieve “Gen” Ann Clukey Passed away on September 10, 2024, in her home in Detroit Lakes, MN. She was born on December 7, 1935, to George Sloan and Geneva “Joy” Sloan in Detroit Lakes, MN. Gen attended school in Detroit Lakes, MN. She met the love of her life, Donald Clukey. They were married on February 3, 1954, at the Mission Church in White Earth, MN. They lived in White Earth and Detroit Lakes early on in their marriage and started their family. In 1965, the family moved to Moorhead, MN. Gen made her career at MSUM where she took much pride in taking care of the dorms students resided in.

Don and Gen relished their summers at the lake with their children and extended family, spending hours out on the water, pulling skiers and swimming. In their later years, they became snowbirds delighting in the Florida weather. They made their second home on “Woods-N-Water Drive” in Mount Dora, Florida. Gen was active in the community and spent time helping organize activities, working out in the pool, and every so often having a cup of coffee with friends. She always made sure friends and loved ones felt appreciated and loved by surprising them with a bouquet of flowers. Gen was truly “The Sunshine Girl.”

After Don passed away in 2003, Gen spent most of the year in Mount Dora, FL and met a special friend Gary Michalak who cared for her dearly. In 2022, Gen moved back to Detroit Lakes, MN where she reconnected with old friends and made new ones at Lincoln Park. She loved being home again, near “the lakes” where she could visit with family more often. Her eyes lit up every time she saw her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, who truly were the light of her life.

Gen is survived by her sons’ Terry (Silvia) Clukey of Ponsford, MN; Dave (Marsha) Clukey of Osage, MN and her special friend, Gary Michalak, of Mount Dora, FL. Also, her grandchildren Jessica Kuntz; Sarah (Dan) Warrington; Katie (Cory) Jendro; Becky (Drew) Cemenski; Jenny (Joe) Rittgers; Angie (Mike) Hanson; Charity (Jordan) Reese; Ryan (Christina) Clukey & 21 great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death is her loving husband, Donald Clukey; her daughters Donalyn “Sue” Clukey, Karen Gravalin and Joy Clukey-Cloutier and her parents George and Geneva Sloan and siblings Adeline Gordon, Margaret Krenelka, Athrelda Brickson, Rose Marie Wallgren, Norbert Sloan & Gerald Sloan.

Gen will be laid to rest next to her husband Donald at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Moorhead, MN.

The family would like to thank the Lincoln Park Assisted Living for their compassionate care of Gen and her many friends who made her last days so special. Any memorials in honor of Gen can be made in her name to St. Theodore’s Parish in Ponsford, MN. (Mailing Address: PO Box 57, Ogema, MN 56559)
