Genevieve Bernadine (Eveslage) Kersting, 95, died March 13, 2022, in Mahnomen, Minn.
The daughter of William and Alvina Eveslage, she was born on October 19, 1926, in Mahnomen, where she grew up and attended school. On Oct. 23, 1945, she married Richard Kersting at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Beaulieu.
In 1956, the couple bought the Waubun Market, where Genny and Richard worked side-by-side while raising their children. After they sold the store in 1981, Genny worked for the drug store in Mahnomen for many years before retiring. She was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Waubun. Her hobbies included reading books, working in her garden, and tending her flowers. She cherished her daily coffees with friends – her and her best friend, Cleo, rarely missed an afternoon at the local Waubun restaurant. She also found great joy spending time with her family and grandchildren. Genny had a warm and loving nature, and all who knew her knew that her smile could brighten a room.
Genny spent her last years in the Mahnomen Nursing Home and was so lucky to have her sister, Lucille, move in with her this past year, where they got to enjoy each other every day.
Surviving are sons Steven of Lakeville, MN, Mark (Brenda) of Waubun, and Curtis (Lynnae) of Moorhead; son-in-law William Peterson of Waubun; sister, Lucille, of Mahnomen; six grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and a great-great grandchild.
Preceding her in death are her husband; her parents; a son, Wayne; daughters Darlene and June; daughters-in-law, Patricia and Bonnie; and granddaughter, Bridget.
