Georgia O. Valley age 91 of Detroit Lakes, MN formerly of Fullerton, CA died September 24, 2024, at Ecumen – Emmanuel Nursing Home, Detroit Lakes, MN.

Georgia was born on September 30, 1932, the daughter of George and Hazel (Eklund) Oien in St. Paul, MN. As a young child she lived in Battle Lake, MN. Her school years were spent in the Twin Cities. She earned a degree from the University of Minnesota. In 1952 she moved to Los Angeles, CA, where she attended classes at UCLA. Having earned a scholarship from the Minneapolis School of Art in her younger years, she continued to further her interest in the Arts through her school years and into her career, entering the field of advertising with an international agency, McCann-Erickson’s Los Angeles office, and enjoyed her position there for eight years. Georgia was united in marriage to Harvey Coleman Valley on October 3, 1959, at Mount Olivet Lutheran Church in Mpls, MN. They made their home in Downey, CA for eight years and Fullerton, CA, for forty-five years. They returned to Detroit Lakes, MN in 2013 to be with family.

During her life as wife and mother of two daughters, Kimberly Jean and Lori Lynn, she found time for church and community as well as working with the family business. Community service involved Children’s Hospital, Los Angeles; Ways and Means Chairman, Downey Grade School; All City Chairman – American Cancer Society, Downey; Asst. Girl Scout Leader, Fullerton; Membership in Damas de Caridad, St. Jude Hospital; Music Associates, California State University; Sonata Chapter, Orange County Performing Arts Center; Fullerton Civic Light Opera Guild; Friends of Jazz; Mother Goose Guild, Children’s Hospital of Orange County; Children’s Home Society, Fullerton Auxiliary, and Muckenthaler Cultural Center, Fullerton. Harvey and Georgia enjoyed membership at two country clubs, Los Coyotes Country Club, Fullerton, and Lake Arrowhead Country Club, Lake Arrowhead, CA.

Georgia was always grateful for her wonderful family and friends, and a life blessed with so many happy memories.

Georgia is survived by her daughter Kimberley (John) Green, of Detroit Lakes, MN; and two grandsons, Will and Jake Green.

Georgia was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey; her parents; an infant brother, John Richard; and her daughter, Lori (Valley) Harp.

Graveside Services will be held on Monday October 7, 2024; 12 noon at the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Battle Lake, MN. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hospice of the Red River Valley.

The West-Kjos Funeral Home of Detroit Lakes is handling the arrangements.
