James Dorrance age 93 of Detroit Lakes, MN died February 18, 2019 at Ecumen – Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes, MN. James Dorrance was born November 23, 1925 in Perham, MN to Albert and Gertrude (Dorrance) Buman. He grew up and attended school in Perham until the age of fifteen when he moved to California to work in the shipyards during WWII. While in California he served in the United States Coast Guard Reserve and the Merchant Marine. He also worked on a tug boat. He later moved to Minneapolis, MN. On Nov. 10, 1950 he was united in marriage to Florence Baker. They made their home in Crystal, MN, where he worked as a welder for the Ware Manufacturing Company for thirty five years. He retired in 1980 and moved to Detroit Lakes. Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, and woodworking. He loved children and helping others. His missionary trip to Jamaica was a highlight in his life. He was a member of the Minneapolis Police Reserve, the Odd Fellows Lodge, the Moose Lodge, Eagles and Elks. He is survived by one sister, Dorothy Buck, of Detroit Lakes, MN; many nieces and nephews; and special friend, Virginia Earley. He was preceded in death by his wife, Florence; two sisters, Jeanne Latvola and Gayle Tschida; one niece; three nephews; and his parents.
