Jean M. Vizenor age 73 of Detroit Lakes, MN died March 5, 2018 at Essentia Health – Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes, MN. Jean Marie Vizenor was born July 29, 1944 in Wadena, MN to Daniel and Lillian (Steckley) Gerlach. She grew up and attended school in Wadena, graduated from Wadena High School. She continued her education in Minneapolis, MN, where she earned a nursing degree. On October 3, 1964 she was united in marriage to Darrell Vizenor. They made their home in Detroit Lakes. Over the years Jean worked as a nurse at St. Mary’s Hospital, Emmanuel Nursing Home, and Meritcare Clinic in Detroit Lakes. Jean enjoyed scrapbooking, reading, and time spent with her family. She was also an avid Elvis fan. She is survived by one son, Shane (Jessilyn) Vizenor, of East Grand Forks, MN; one daughter, Dawn Vizenor, of Detroit Lakes, MN; five grandchildren, Danielle (Jake) Vizenor, of Detroit Lakes, MN; Christopher (Rachel) Vizenor, of Norman, OK; Kody (Emily) Vizenor, of Chico, CA; Brittany Moran, of Detroit Lakes, MN; and Brady Moran, of Detroit Lakes, MN; seven great grandchildren, Madison, Zachary, Mason, Avery, Blake, Peyton, and Brantly; two brothers, John (Jeanne) Gerlach, of CO; and Jim (Kathy) Gerlach, of Shakopee, MN; one sister, Judith (Bill) Schultz, of St. Cloud, MN; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Darrell; one sister, Joyce Hill; one brother, Jerry Gerlach; and her parents. A Celebration of Jean’s life will be held on Wednesday March 14, 2018; 2:00 p.m. at the West-Kjos Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to services.
