Jerry Johannsen, known to friends as “Shorty” passed away on August 12, 2018, at the age of 64, after a short struggle with cancer. Jerry was born July 16, 1954 in Wheaton, MN to Duane and Florence Johannsen. At the age of ten, Jerry moved with his parents from Wheaton, MN to the Detroit Lakes area where he completed grade school and high school. Jerry spent his working career as a truck driver, construction worker, and was currently employed as a crop adjuster. He loved the great out of doors and spent many hours hunting, fishing and exploring all the areas and wildlife refuges around the Detroit Lakes area. He will be greatly missed by family and friends. Jerry is survived by two brothers, Richard Johannsen, of Detroit Lakes, MN; and Don (Sharon) Johannsen, of Walker, MN; two sisters, LaVonne Carpenter, of Detroit Lakes, MN; and Bonita (Dennis) Krenz, of Wheaton, MN; and six nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a nephew, Eric Soderstrom, of Bemidji, MN. Memorial Services will be on Friday August 17, 2018; 2:00 p.m. at the West-Kjos Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Detroit Lakes, MN. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of the Red River Valley.
