Larry Dean Donner

Larry D. Donner age 89 of Detroit Lakes, MN died July 8, 2021 in his residence under the care of Hospice.

Larry Dean Donner was born on May 26, 1932 to Paul and Ida (Bullert) Donner at the farm home in Popple Grove Township in Mahnomen County. Larry attended District 13 Country School. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ogema, MN. Larry married Donna Mae Scherzer from Callaway on May 29, 1960 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Callaway, MN. Born to them were Virginia (Rod) Tharaldson, of Fargo, ND; Michael; and Matthew (Lorna) Donner, of Andover, MN.

Larry farmed with his brother Paul, until he died in 1982. He then farmed with Paul Jr. and Bill until his retirement in 1997. Following retirement Larry and Donna moved to Detroit Lakes where they made their home until his passing.

Larry was very active at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church over the years, serving as an Elder, Trustee, and member of the Cleaning Club, amongst other things. His church family was very important to him. Larry enjoyed growing things as a farmer and avid gardener. He spent many happy days gardening with Donna during retirement

Larry is also survived by grandchildren, Elizabeth and Nicholas. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Paul; and son, Michael.

Funeral Services will be on Tuesday July 20, 2021; 11:00 a.m. at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Callaway, MN. Visitation will be on Monday from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the West-Kjos Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.
