LeRoy "Lee" Seim passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at the age of 77, surrounded by his loving family at his care facility in Frazee, Minnesota.
Born as the eldest of 12 children to Elmer and Lorraine (Biddy Kertscher) Seim, Lee lived a life centered around family, service, and community. A proud graduate of Detroit Lakes High School, Lee excelled as a member of the golf team, laying the foundation for his lifelong passion for the sport. Lee was often found on the course several times a week, enjoying both the competition and camaraderie the game offered. He also treasured the simple joys of life, such as a good cup of coffee and lively conversations with friends at the Main Street Cafe.
In 1965, Lee answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the National Guard. Over 23 years of dedicated service, he rose to the rank of Sergeant First Class before retiring with pride and honor. He spent his career in construction and sales, deeply rooted in the Detroit Lakes area. Known for his unwavering work ethic and warm, approachable nature, Lee built lasting connections in both his professional and personal life.
Lee's greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his three sons: Shannon Seim of Nevis, MN; Chad (April) Seim of Sartell, MN; and Ehren (Holly) Seim of Edina, MN. He adored his four grandchildren: Lauren (17), Calvin (15), Hudson (4), and Hayes (2), who were a source of immense pride and happiness.
Lee is also survived by his nine siblings: Bruce and Julia of Detroit Lakes, Claire Welander of Portland, OR, Steve and Mary of Wheatland, WY, Jan and Daryl Thompson of Elk River, MN, Dennis and Becky of Crown Point, IN, Howard and Sher of Rochester, MN, Julie and Mark Ladeen of Frazee, MN, Kenneth of Detroit Lakes, and Gerry and Sue of Thief River Falls, MN. He took great joy in spending time with his many nieces, nephews, and their children, who held a special place in his heart.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Lorraine, his brother Thomas, and an infant brother. A celebration of Lee’s life is being planned at the Shorewood Pub on Saturday, February 22nd, from 1 to 4 PM. Stop by to share stories, memories, and a few Grain Belt Premiums in his honor.
Lee will forever be remembered as a man of quiet strength, steadfast devotion to family and friends, and an enduring love for golf and the joy of community. His legacy of kindness, service, and connection lives on in the hearts of all who knew him.
