Norma L. Haack

June 16, 1945 — February 18, 2020

On Tuesday, February 18, 2020, Norma L. Haack, loving wife, mother and grandmother, held the hands of her husband and children as she passed away at the age of 74 at St. Luke's Hospital in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

She was born Norma Lou Christopherson on June 16, 1945, in Hendrum, MN to Lester and Grace (Enger) Christopherson. She married John Bennett Haack on May 21, 1966. The early years of their marriage were spent traveling as John served in the United States Navy. Once John left the Navy, they made their home back in Detroit Lakes, MN, where they raised two children, Jeff and Melissa.

Norma was known to her friends, family, and community as a devoted mother, loving wife, and generous, caring friend. She and John were married 54 years, and their devotion to each other was a wonder to behold. John was a constant fixture at her side over the many months of her recent illness, and even when she wasn’t feeling well, she would always check in to make sure John was doing okay and being taken care of. Together they created a wonderful family life filled with trips to the North Shore of Lake Superior, family game nights and special meals for the many holidays spent together. She loved nothing more than to provide comfort to her family and friends through her hospitality, her warmth, and her baking. Her true calling was motherhood, and she delighted in her children and grandchildren. Spending time with her granddaughters brought her such joy, whether reading to them, playing games, or baking cookies. In all these joyous activities, and through her warm and comforting support of friends, she gave full expression to her abiding love of God.

Norma was preceded in death by her father Lester Christopherson, her mother Grace Christopherson, and her brothers Alan Christopherson and Richard Enger.

Norma is survived by her husband of 54 years, John Haack, her two children, Jeff (Rebekah) Haack of Waukesha, WI, and Melissa (Bruce March) Haack of Stoughton, WI, her sister Rita (Christopherson) Moen of Fargo, ND, her sister-in-law Harriet (Slinginger) Christopherson of Winter Haven, FL, her two grandchildren, Violet Haack and Lauren Haack, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 23, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at Detroit Lakes United Methodist Church, 885 Pembina Trail, Detroit Lakes, MN 56501. Visitation at 12:00 pm. A Family Prayer Service will be at the same location at 4 pm on Saturday, February 22.
