Norman W. Danielson age 81 of Detroit Lakes, MN died February 26, 2020 at the Ecumen – Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes, MN.
Norman Walter Danielson was born November 2, 1938 in Detroit Lakes, MN to Walter and Anna (Danbom) Danielson. He grew up on a farm near Richwood, MN. He attended school in Richwood and later in Detroit Lakes, where he graduated from High School in 1956. He then attended Concordia College in Moorhead, MN, graduating in 1960 with a degree in Biology. Norman then served in the U.S. Navy from 1962 - 1965. He served on the Aircraft Carrier USS Midway. He spent time off the coast of Viet Nam and also Antarctica. Following his discharge from the Navy, he returned home and farmed with his father. In 1967, he was united in marriage to Jeanne Wayman. They made their home on a farm near Richwood, MN., where they farmed until 1987.
After retiring from farming he worked as a Missionary and an Ag consultant all over the world, including Russia and Africa. He was always proud of the fact that he worked on all seven continents. He also helped host Ag students from around the world. He studied Theology and worked as a Lay Pastor for the ELCA Lutheran Church. Other things that Norman enjoyed included logging, opal mining in Australia, and visiting with people from all walks of life.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanne; one son, Eric Danielson, of St. Paul, MN; one brother, Wallace (Renee) Danielson, of Callaway, MN; two sisters, Elaine Yaeger, and Muriel Danielson, of Fargo, ND; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and an infant sister, Elizabeth.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday March 2, 2020; 11:00 a.m. at the Grace Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes, MN. Visitation will be on Sunday from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the West-Kjos Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes, MN, with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Interment will be in the Richwood Lakeside Cemetery in the spring.
