Detroit Lakes, Minnesota

Phyllis Elaine (Nelson) Wilson, age 90 of Detroit lakes, MN, passed away October 28, 2024, at Ecumen Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes under the care of Hospice of Red River Valley. She was born and raised in the Detroit lakes area. 

Phyllis Nelson was united in marriage to Norman Wilson on September 25, 1953. Norman and Phyllis raised their family in Park Rapids, Mn where Phyllis took up work at Carter-Ringer jacket factory until they closed. In 1981, Phyllis started a new career at Sunset Nursing Home first as a cook and then later as head of housekeeping until retirement.

Phyllis will be fondly remembered by friends and family for her fun, caring, and giving personality, for her excellent cooking and baking skills, and her many crafts.

She is survived by her children: one son: Rick (Valerie) Nelson; two daughters: Pamela (mike) Wilson, and Dawn Carlson; eight grandchildren: Eddie, Emily, and Bonny Nelson; Stephanie, Jesse and Anthony Wilson; Vanessa, and Mitchell Carlson; nineteen great grandchildren; dear nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends.

Phyllis is preceded in death by her parents; loving husband Norman; her beloved daughter: Roxanne Wilson, and son: Bruce Wilson, and one grandson: Jethro Nelson.

Please join Phyllis’ friends and family in a celebration of life on December 14th, 1-5pm at the American Legion in Park Rapids, with many good memories to share.

In lieu of flowers, family would appreciate donations made to the Hospice of Red River Valley.
