Richard D. Engen (“Dick”), 55, of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota died Sunday, November 11, 2018 in his home. Richard Don Engen was born on July 20, 1963 in Tyler, MN to Donald W. and Janet L. Engen. He grew up in Wahpeton, ND. He was baptized in the Christian faith at Vangen Lutheran Church, Mission Hill, SD. He confirmed that faith in April of 1979 at Bethel Lutheran Church, Wahpeton, ND. Dick participated in football, basketball, and track and graduated from Wahpeton High School in1982. He attended NDSCS after high school. Dick eventually moved to Detroit Lakes to be near family. He enjoyed reading, camping, and listening to country music, as well as the 80’s hard rock bands. He was a loyal Minnesota Vikings and Minnesota Twins fan. Dick was very proud of his nephews and niece. He always had advice to share after the boys’ basketball games. His gymnastics “advice” was interesting! Dick is survived by his mother, Janet Engen, of Detroit Lakes, MN; sister, Denise (Ladd) Lyngaas, Detroit Lakes, MN; nephews, Bennett (Kelli), Fargo, ND, Jackson, and Trey, both of Moorhead, MN; niece, Molly, La Crosse, WI, as well as numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins. Dick was preceded in death by his father, Donald Engen and brother, Jon David Engen.
