On Sunday, October 23, 2022, Robert Bruce McTaggart, loving husband and father passed away at the age of 84 at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota.
Robert was born March 19, 1938, to Darwin and Marie (Moon) McTaggart in Campbell, MN. After graduating from Campbell High School in 1956, he attended Cadet Training as a medic at Camp Doss in Grand Ledge, Michigan. He returned from Michigan and continued dairy farming until 1968. Two years later, he secured his Nursing Home Administration license.
Robert met the love of his life, Yvonne Thompson, as freshman in high school but they didn’t start dating until five years later during her second year of teaching. They were engaged on July 4, 1959, and married on September 19, 1959, at Wahpeton Seventh Day Adventist Church. They were blessed to have three children.
Robert was employed at Detroit Lakes Nursing Center in 1969 as a maintenance director and interim administrator. In 1971, Robert became the Administrator and CEO of Frazee Care Center in Frazee, MN and Frazee Assisted Living in Vergas, MN where he worked until 2004. After leaving Frazee Care Center, Robert drove truck for various companies. When at home he enjoyed working on his hobby farm. He continued helping others through snow plowing, lawn mowing and anything else he could do to be helpful.
Throughout his life, Robert enjoyed animals. In his youth, he raised and showed Registered Holstein cattle at local and state fairs, Black and White shows, and Crookston Winter Shows. He enjoyed 4-H, judged cattle at the state level and served as a 4-H leader. He continued his passion for animals as he, with the help of his children and several farm dogs, raised beef cattle, sheep, and horses, on his and Yvonne’s hobby farm in Frazee, MN.
Robert had a deep and abiding love of God, family, farming, and friends. He found great joy in serving his neighbors and community. He was a member of the Frazee Fire Department and served as Chief for 12 years. He helped establish Frazee Rescue and served as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). He also served as: Regional Speak Up Jaycees representative, Frazee Community Club Chair, Frazee Turkey Day Chair, the Building Chair of the new Frazee firehall, member of the MN State Board of Nursing Home Association and was awarded the Outstanding Administrator of the Year award by the MN Health and Housing Alliance. Robert had a passion for youth and youth sports, serving on the Frazee School Board, helping to organize Minor League baseball and coaching Legion baseball in Frazee, MN. He served his church community as a Youth Leader, Youth Sabbath School Teacher, Pathfinder Leader, Elder, and Deacon. Even in death he continued to serve others as a tissue donor for burn victims through LifeSource.
He is survived by his wife, Yvonne, and their children, Jon (Debra) McTaggart, Jan (Greg) Worthing, and Jac (Shari) McTaggart; Grandchildren Elizabeth (Mark) Hilt, Sarah McTaggart, Andrew (Andrea) Worthing, Eryn (Jack) Judd, Torie (Zack Kennedy) McTaggart, Carrie (Travis) Haugen, and Adam McTaggart; Great-grandchildren Adrianna, Emersen and Jacoby Raile, Chloe and Camden Hilt, and Aspyn Kennedy; and siblings, Marlys Dirksen; twin brother, Alan (Tena) McTaggart; Joan Deming; and Karla (Ron) Holweger. There are also many nieces, nephews and extended family members that will miss him dearly. Robert was preceded in death by parents, grandparents, one sister (Bev) and three brothers-in-law.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 3, 2022, at 1 pm at the Seventh Day Adventist Church (404 Richwood Rd) in Detroit Lakes, MN. Visitation will be held at the church two hours prior to service (11 am to 1 pm). Interment will follow at Lake Eunice SDA cemetery.
