Sharon C. Jacobson, age 71, of Detroit Lakes, MN formally of Moorhead, MN died June 7, 2021 at Mayo Methodist Hospital Rochester, MN.
Sharon Colleen Krueger was born March 10, 1950 in Parkers Prairie, MN to Lancelot and Evelyn Krueger. She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Sharon grew up in rural Parkers Prairie on the family farm and attended school in Parkers Prairie, graduating in 1968. After high school Sharon attended Moorhead State College and earned a degree in Education, graduating in 1972. Due to the scarcity of job opportunities in the area Sharon enlisted in The United States Marine Corps and attended Officer Candidate School in Quantico, VA.
In December 1972 Sharon was engaged to Terry Jacobson of Detroit Lakes, MN. They wed on November 24, 1973 in Parkers Prairie, MN. Terry and Sharon both joined The United States Army Reserve and after two years joined the North Dakota Air National Guard, Fargo, ND.
On August 31, 1977 Terry and Sharon welcomed their only child Julie Marie. Sharon’s military career lasted nearly 20 years but ended after being diagnosed with colon cancer. After beating the cancer, Sharon returned to Moorhead State University and obtained a degree in Social Work. Sharon was employed by Merit Care Hospital as a Medical Social Worker until retiring in 2003. She truly found her calling in social work due to her vast personal and professional experiences.
In retirement Sharon enjoyed traveling, her flowers, her lake home, singing in the choir, shopping, and especially spending time with her beloved grandchildren. Sharon was also involved in many church activities and was on the church council. Sharon was a Giver! She gave not only her time to help others but she gave her love.
Sharon is survived by her husband Terry; daughter Julie (William) Manke of SD; step sons Mark (Denise) Jacobson of KS, Stephen Jacobson of AZ; sisters Janice (Joe) Cooley of IA, Janet Gonzalez of NY; Brother- in- law Bruce Jacobson; grandchildren Jacob, Noah, Avery, Abby, Charlie, Jillian, Carter, William, Taylor, Carley, and Kate; and several Nephews and Nieces.
Sharon is preceded in death by her parents Lancelot and Evelyn Krueger; mother and father in law Ernest and Marjorie Jacobson; sister in law Joan Kay Carlson; granddaughter Brooke and Niece Jennifer.
