Stanley Jay Ackerson

Stanley Jay Ackerson, 88, of Detroit Lakes, MN, passed away on Saturday, January 12, 2019, at Ecumen Care Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, January 18, 2019, at 1pm, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Detroit Lakes, MN. Visitation will be on Thursday, January 17, 2019, from 5-7 pm with a 7 pm prayer service at West-Kjos Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes, MN. Stanley Jay Ackerson was born on May 10, 1930, to Earl and Esther (Fingalson) Ackerson in Wheatland, ND.  On September 1, 1948, Stanley enlisted with the United States Navy, and was honorably discharged on July 28, 1952.  On September 1, 1956, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth (Betty Gagner) in Detroit Lakes, MN. To this union seven children were born. The couple made their home in the Detroit Lakes area.  Stanley worked for the United States Postal Service in Detroit Lakes, for over 30 years and retired in 1993.   He was the longest living member of the Detroit Lakes Eagles Club, with more than 50 years of membership. He was also a long-time member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Stan was a kind and gentle man, notorious for his good sense of humor. He was a wonderful family man and spent most of his time with his children and grandchildren.  He enjoyed gardening, hunting, and was an expert marksman.  He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and will be deeply missed by his family. Stan is survived by daughter Cindy (Darrell) Engen, daughter Sue (Brad) Kluver, daughter Christle Johnson, son James Ackerson, son Patrick (Karen) Ackerson, daughter Michelle (Jeff) Wosika, and son Jeffery ( Moe) Ackerson; brothers Stewart (Terry) Ackerson and Dennis (LuAnn) Ackerson;  grandchildren Nick and  Kaitlen Engen, Kallie and Kelsey Kluver, Andy and Dylan Johnson, Josh and Ryan Ackerson, Kassandra and Kortni Ackerson, Dustin Hagen, and Maddie Wosika; great grandchild Ayden Ackerson. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Betty, sister Shirley McLaren, brother Steve, and son in-law Bob Johnson.   The family would like to thank each and every one of you for taking time out of your busy schedules to help support Stan’s family at this difficult time.
